Leadership Awards Descriptions

President's Award

Awarded to ONE outstanding freshman student who has demonstrated service to the University and shows potential for future leadership success.

Criteria:
  • Currently enrolled student at FSU
  • Have been at FSU for no more than three semesters and a maximum earned 30 hours
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
  • Demonstrate service and leadership to the University
  • Possess characteristics for future leadership success

Bob E. Leach Award

Awarded to ONE outstanding student who is known not only for exemplary leadership and service to the University, but also for the caring and sharing attitude exhibited through their service.

Criteria:
  • Currently enrolled student at FSU
  • Have been a student a FSU for at least two semesters
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Demonstrate a caring attitude through leadership in activities that have benefited the lives of others
  • Have not previously received this award

Sean A. Pittmann Award

Awarded to ONE outstanding student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication to the student body, university, and community with significant contributions to the welfare and support of African-American students.

Criteria:
  • Currently enrolled student at FSU
  • Have been a student a FSU for at least two semesters
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Demonstrate service to the student body, university, and community with an emphasis on support and contributions to the African-American population
  • Have not previously received this award

J.R. Harding Award

Awarded to ONE student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities and exceptional persistence in achieving educational goals while overcoming personal obstacles

Criteria:
  • Currently enrolled student at FSU
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Demonstrate persistence in the pursuit of higher education while rising above personal difficulties
  • Have not previously received this award

Student Seminole Awards

Awarded to between eight and ten students who have made special contributions to the University in the areas of leadership and service

Criteria:
  • Currently enrolled student at FSU
  • Have been a student at FSU for at least two semesters
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
  • Demonstrate a special contribution to FSU in areas of leadership and service through participation in campus activities
  • Have not previously received this award

Who's Who Among Students in American
Universities and Colleges

To honor upperclassmen and graduate students whose academic standing, participation in extracurricular activities, and community service are decidely above average

Criteria:
  • Be a junior, senior, or graduate status
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Show involvement and leadership in campus clubs, organizations, and activities

Dean of Students Award:
The Dean's Cup

Awarded to a maximum of three students who have demonstrated a strong sense of commitment to the Seminole Creed. The eight tenets of the Seminole Creed include: Truthfulness, Respect, Excellence, Freedom of Speech and Inquiry, Diversity, Justice, Citizenship, and Discovery. Dedication and commitment to the values should be apparent through the actions of the nominee.

Criteria:
  • Full-time undergraduate or graduate student at FSU
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA for undergraduates and 3.25 GPA for graduate students
  • Understanding of and commitment to the Seminole Creed and its eight tenets
  • Demonstrated contribution to campus life and the community
  • Strength of character

Faculty/Staff Seminole Award

Awarded to between two and four faculty/A&P/staff members who are responsible for major contributions to the University through service to students. This award is presented to those candidates who have an exemplary attitude toward students, who are enthusiastic about working with students, and who extend themselves to help students. This award is based on service beyond the responsibilities of their job description, teaching, and research

Criteria:
  • Currently employed at FSU
  • Have been employed at FSU for at least two semesters
  • Have not previously received this award within the past four years

Advisor of the Year Award

To honor ONE FSU faculty/staff member who contributes times and expertise in a volunteer activity capacity to a student organization at FSU.

Criteria:
  • Be a full-time FSU employee
  • Responsible for giving excellent guidance and advice to a RSO
  • Serve as an advisor on a volunteer basis and is not a mandatory requirement within the functions of staff/faculty's position
  • Have not received this award within the past four years

Organization of the Year Award

To honor one recognized undergraduate student organization and one graduate student organization at FSU that has been responsible for major contributions to the University community or constituent group in the areas of service and leadership.

Criteria:
  • Be in good standing (i.e., currently recognized with the Student Activities Center and absent of disciplinary issues) with Student Activities Center
  • Have not received this award within the past four years

Vires Award

Awarded by ODK, Mortar Board, and Garnet & Gold Key

Criteria:
  • Exemplary determination and perseverance

Please Note: This nominee must be a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) in good standing with the Student Activities Center (i.e. currently recognized and absent of disciplinary problems). SGA organizations and Greek organizations are NOT eligible for this award.


Artes Award

Awarded by ODK, Mortar Board, and Garnet & Gold Key

Criteria:
  • Excellence in scholastic achievement

Please Note: This nominee must be a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) in good standing with the Student Activities Center (i.e. currently recognized and absent of disciplinary problems). SGA organizations and Greek organizations are NOT eligible for this award.


Mores Award

Awarded by ODK, Mortar Board, and Garnet & Gold Key

Criteria:
  • Outstanding contributions to the Seminole Tradition
